I was commissioned to create this car as the hero vehicle of the disco dance film STARCROSS'D. It's based on the Saab 9x concept car. The film is very stylised, so the shape of the car was important but it didn't require many fine details like window trimming.

The car is a sub-surfaced low-poly mesh created in Autodesk Maya. The tyres and rims are NURBS surfaces. These renderings were created for my own use with Mental Ray using final gather for lighting.
I created a basic rig for the car, allowing control of the doors and lights. Changing the value of one channel turns on a pair of spotlights and simultaneously makes the headlight glass material emit light. Similar controls were made for the rear light panel.
The animation requirements hadn't been finalised, so the wheels were left to be rigged later.
