[photopress:img_6241.jpg,thumb,alignleft]Apparently we’re not allow to renew our visas from the office in Kyoto. I wouldn’t have thought they’d be specific to any particular area of Japan. And so we wasted both days of our weekend, going to the immigration offices in two cities.
It wasn’t all bad, though. We really haven’t explored Kyoto enough. We found a brilliant little cafe near the office (in Marutamachi). It has small gum trees out the front and a most of the menu is vegetarian. They have odd cushions.
Their first concert was in a small underground live house last night in Shinsaibashi. Kaz will have to invite his dentist to the next gig, playing with his teeth as he does. I think their short set contained only two of their own songs, but they both rocked. Also, their rendition of Voodoo Child was one of the best I’ve heard!
Sadly the evening was marred by some friends of ours fighting after a break up (to use the term loosely). One of them couldn’t bear to be near the other so missed the gig. Everyone was being terribly narrow-minded and things got a bit heated.
Nothing like a bit of immaturity to make you feel young.
On orders from my school director, I wore a yukata (traditional Japanese pyjamas that look a bit like a kimono) at work last night. Last week she was quite insistent about it, so I was disappointed when I found I was the only person who bothered to bring one! I kicked up a stink and eventually some other staff members agreed to don happi coats, which I guess is acceptable.
At least the kids put in some effort. They were very cute.
I got a few weird looks on the train, but maybe no more than usual.
